I’ve wasted a lot of money trying to find a decent archtop in this price range and I have always been dissatisfied. I had an Epiphone ES-175, a Hofner Jazzica and a Club; I tried out the Epiphone Casinos, the Ibanez archtop range, and the Gretsch Electromatic series. All of them had various buzzes, muddy pickups, and other frustrating noises. They all sound lousy acoustically because they all have thick coats of polyurethane deadening the resonance of the wood, making them sound, feel, and play like toys.

On the other hand, the Godin 5th Ave CW is everything I could have hoped for. It’s beautiful to look at, it plays very comfortably, it isn’t a labyrinth of pesky buzzes, it sounds great acoustically, it has a classy, smooth finish (not the 1/4″ of shiny plastic), and the P90 pickups sound really sweet. I am positively astounded that I could get a guitar this great at such a low price.

I’m sure there are a number of other people who are in the same position I was in for the last couple of years, and I strongly urge you to get this guitar, or at least try one out at your nearest guitar store. It is an extraordinary instrument and I am so glad I discovered this guitar and pulled the trigger on it. Well, enough gushing…

I must agree with other people who state they can’t believe the quality of this guitar for money. GREAT neck and fingerboard with room to work. The radius is just right, not too curvy. The nice finish resembles French polish, and I’m sure contributes to the open resonant sound. Highly recommended.

I am not a guitar virtuoso but have played many guitars and have a very sensitive ear. Let me tell you that it sounds so sweet in drop-D and A that one can play even the most dissonant chords and they ring clear and beautiful. How do they do it at this price point???
